Yeast infection (also known as Candida, Monilia, Candidiasis, Balinitis or Thrush) is essentially a fungal infection and is in fact quite a common condition amongst both women and men.  Not only will 3 out of 4 women develop it at some point in their lives, but men can also contract this infection in a variety of ways.

Most men will not be aware they have a candida (fungal) infection because it is a little more difficult to detect yeast infection in men than it is for women.   Male yeast infections can manifest themselves in a variety of ways such as rashes or blotches present in the mouth or the genital region.  An infection such as athlete’s foot is a very common form of yeast infection that is also linked to candida.  Men who have diabetes are also at a greater risk of developing yeast infection due to the fact that they have elevated sugar levels present in their blood stream.

So What Causes Yeast Infection In Men?

Yeast infection results from the increased presence of the fungi, Candida.  This fungus is already present in most of us so there’s no actual way of preventing contact with these bacteria.  As the yeast bacteria likes to grow in moist areas, it can live peacefully in one’s mouth, digestive (gastrointestinal) tract, rectum and in female genitalia without causing any real problems.

However, under certain conditions the fungus will multiply and give rise to yeast infection disease.  This usually happens when temperature and pH levels in your body change, and particularly if your immune system has been weakened, if you’re using antibiotics, or exposed to cancer or diabetes treatments.  The fungus can also travel through the blood stream and affect the throat, intestines, and heart valves.

Yeast infections can primarily develop following a course of medication or antibiotics to treat other illnesses, and the main reason for that is that medications not only destroy illness-causing bacteria or microorganisms in the body, but also destroy the normal or good bacteria present in your body (from the over acidity they produce in the intestine),  resulting in yeast over-growth (candidiasis).

Most people regard candida or yeast infection as a ‘on the surface’ or skin related problem that should be treated with medications or creams but few are aware of its potentially risky and life-threatening complications.  Yeast infections in men can cause serious, sometimes even fatal, diseases.  This is particularly true for sufferers with weakened or underdeveloped immune systems, diabetes, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).

Can Yeast Infection In Men Be Cured?

To effectively cure yeast infection in men, you need to be aware of the real cause of yeast infection and be able to identify its symptoms.   You also need to learn about the dietary principals needed to maintain a candida free environment and about the complimentary treatments that will help you battle the  adverse affects and complications that yeast infection can create.

By educating yourself about the steps you need to take in order to deal with your candida infection condition, you can eliminate the pain, annoyance, frustration and perhaps the embarrassment associated with this condition.
